About us

psyCH is the umbrella organization of Swiss psychology students. Since 2002, psychology students from all over Switzerland meet to connect and discuss about the concerns of psychology students. PsyCH inform students about studying psychology, to promote scientific and social exchange, and maintain contact with psychological organizations around the globe. The 18th EFPSA Congress (the European umbrella organization) in Turkey in 2002 motivated Sven Gros and Markus Hausammann to bring Swiss psychology students together through a national platform. The following year after further meetings with EFPSA and the establishment of a dedicated team, the student umbrella organization Psychology Switzerland (psyCH) was founded. In 2004 psyCH, now with 17 members from the Universities of Bern, Basel, Zurich, Fribourg, and Lausanne, officially joined EFPSA. Later the University of Neuchâtel, the University of Geneva, the Zurich ZHAW and Olten FHNW joined, as well as, most recently, the Università della Svizzera italiana in 2021. Since the beginning psyCH has been organizing exciting projects with and for psychology students, such as the annual psyKo or the internship platform psyPra.

Our members

Members of psyCH can be all psychology departments of the Swiss universities and the Swiss universities of applied sciences. At the moment these are the Psychological Institutes of the Universities of Basel, Bern, Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich and Lugano, as well as the Institutes of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) in Olten and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) in Zurich. All psychology students whose student council (Fachschaft) is a member of psyCH are automatically a part of psyCH.

The individual student councils are represented by student representatives, so-called local.orgs, at the annual general meeting and the local-org-meeting. They elect the Presidential Team of psyCH and vote on annual accounts, budget and various project proposals. Through the membership fee of the student councils, the engaged work of psyCH becomes possible.

psyCH is actively involved in the discussion of relevant topics in psychology on a national (among the student councils and between different professional associations) and international level (in contact with the European umbrella organizations).

With the help of fair financing of events and projects (e.g. the psyKo or psyPra) the exchange among students can be promoted. Students can also be supported in finding a professional career and there is also space for other interesting projects.
